Janet Martell
Numeracy Director
Janet Martell is the Numeracy Director of the mRLC and also the former Superintendent of Lakeshore School Division. She is a visionary leader whose passion for education and commitment to her communities fuels her desire for high-quality learning and teaching in every classroom. She was instrumental is leading teachers through a process to reimagine education in Lakeshore School Division. Teachers, with the support of principals, developed plans, classroom-based or school-wide, that aimed to meet the needs of all learners in the school and engage them in learning.

Donald Nikkel
Exective Director
Donald Nikkel an educator with a wide range of educational experiences, spanning from teaching carpentry, running alternative programs, to being the superintendent of human resources and policy at Lakeshore School Division. Despite obtaining a Master of Educational Philosophy from McGill, his greatest learning has occurred when he is on the land with his family and students.

Carolyn Cory
Network Director
Carolyn has almost 40 years of educational experience, serving in the roles of
Superintendent, Student Services Coordinator, Curriculum Coordinator, Reading
Recovery Teacher, Resource Teacher and classroom teacher in southwestern
Manitoba. She also has considerable experience with the mRLC as a participant in
numerous learning networks, as a regional advocate, as a former board member,
and as a director. Carolyn is a passionate instructional leader who champions
collaborative professional learning for teachers across rural and northern Manitoba.

Jonathan Toews
Network Director
Jonathan Toews is the Network Director at the mRLC. He has served as the Executive Director of the mRLC. He has previously held the role of Assistant Superintendent of Border Land School Division, and also has extensive experience as a Principal, Vice-Principal, and Teacher in rural Manitoba. Jonathan has served on committees of the Manitoba Association of School Superintendents, including Indigenous Education and Leadership Development. Jonathan has first-hand experience with the work of mRLC as a participant in the Numeracy Achievement Program and many of our learning networks. He is passionate about teacher professional learning, rural education, and school improvement.
