Responsive Instruction – Addressing the Post Pandemic Challenges – Early Years
This network will address three (3) broad areas:
-
Understanding curriculum in relation to BIG ideas and foundational underpinnings: ask, “What must be taught and why?” to determine instructional focus i.e., planning with the end in mind.
-
Determining student prior knowledge (content and process) and finding ways to use this to guide instruction, i.e., responsive instruction.
-
Differentiating instruction in manageable ways, providing access and extension for all students, i.e., through whole group, small group, 1:1 conferencing.
Expectations of School Teams
-
The team should be comprised of support teacher(s), divisional coaches, and if possible, principal and/or vice-principal.
-
The team commits to 3 half day online networks sessions with Faye Brownlie.
-
The team makes a commitment to an additional 3 half day co-planning sessions with classroom teachers and then co-facilitating (co-teaching, shared reflection) with the same teachers.
-
The team creates a plan for sharing their learning with colleagues in other ways i.e.- staff meetings, pd days.
The school principals commit to providing time for teams to work with or alongside others.
